On June 14, 2024, the Turkish Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce Board had the pleasure of attending a notable alumni event organized by the Turkish Embassy in Lithuania. This event, held at the embassy, celebrated the longstanding success of the Turkish Language Teaching Center at Vilnius University. For over two decades, this center has served as a beacon of knowledge, producing nearly 100 graduates with the robust support of the Yunus Emre Institute and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
The Turkish Language Teaching Center at Vilnius University has made significant strides since its inception. Established with the aim of promoting the Turkish language and culture, the center has benefited from the strong academic partnership with Vilnius University. The program is housed within the School of Eastern Languages, part of the Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies. It offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the Turkish language and its cultural context. This initiative has been instrumental in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and enhancing academic cooperation between Türkiye and Lithuania.
The alumni event was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of Türkiye to Lithuania, H.E. Mr. Görkem Barış Tantekin, and his wife, Mrs. Damla Ömür Tantekin, who generously hosted the gathering. In his address, Ambassador Tantekin emphasized the importance of the Turkish Language Teaching Center in strengthening bilateral ties and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Key figures from Vilnius University were also in attendance, including Vice Chancellor Yrd. Doç, Prof. Dr. Valdas JaskÅ«nas, Dean of the Faculty of Philology Dr. Mindaugas Kvietkauskas, and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Dr. Vytis Silius. They expressed their gratitude towards the academic staff and the Turkish Education Center’s teachers for their dedication and contribution to the program’s success.
The Turkish Language Teaching Center has become a cornerstone for students from various cities in Lithuania and beyond, providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in Turkish culture and language. The event not only celebrated the center’s achievements but also aimed to establish a tradition of alumni gatherings, fostering a sense of community and ongoing engagement among graduates.
